OTBO Announces Election Results
The Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners announced the results of their Board of Directors election and officers serving the Board. The OTBO Board unanimously elected officers – Dr. Paul Gutheil, President; Tom McCann, Vice President; Bruce Ryan, Treasurer and Gary Aiken, Secretary. Re-elected to the Board were Gary Aiken, Dayton, Ohio; Kris Nemann, New Richmond, Ohio; and James Yaegel, Maineville, Ohio. New to the Board is John Royer, Columbus, Ohio and Chris Rosell, Lebanon Ohio.
PAUL R. GUTHEIL has been an owner and breeder of thoroughbred horses in Central Ohio for the past 48 years and is serving his third term as President of the OTBO. His most memorable horse, Crypto’s Redjet voted Ohio Horse of the Year twice & Champion Handicap Mare. Dr. Gutheil and his wife Jimilea own the farm, “Willow Springs” in Galloway where he breeds, boards, and trains thoroughbreds. Dr. Gutheil actively practices family medicine on the west side of Columbus. He was the Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and received the Preceptor of the Year Award Professor of the Year; Clinical Professor of the Ohio University College of Medicine; and the Assistant Clinical Professor at the College of School of Nursing at OSU. For 10 years he was the Chief of Division of Family Practice at Ohio Health doctors’ hospital, a 200-member division. He is a Viet Nam veteran and was Chairman of Anesthesia at a 400 bed hospital in Viet Nam. He is a past member of the Executive Board of Doctors Hospitals, and Foundation and a past member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee of United Health Care. He is a 32nd Degree Mason, Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Aladdin Shrine Temple, the Viet Nam Vets, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The OTBO also unanimously selected the partnership of Bruce Ryan and Tim Hamm as their State Breeders of the Year to be honored by TOBA at their National Awards Dinner. This partnership received $111,475.75 in Breeders awards for their Ohio-breds. They are the owners/breeders of two-time Horse of the Year & Champion, Needmore Flattery and owners of three-time Broodmare of the Year, Kiosk.
