STALLION AUCTION FEB. 3,4,& 5 OFFERS GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR BREEDERS

Breeders will have over 90 opportunities to shop for successful stallions, racehorses and outstanding bloodlines through the Annual Ohio Stallion Season Auction February 3, 4 & 5 on Starquine.com, registration is free. The on-line auction starts Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and runs through Monday at 6;00 p.m. where it will have a “soft close” – meaning if two or more bidders are actively bidding, they will contact them for a final bid.  Stallions available for viewing at Starquine.com in a preview on Friday.  A roster of the donated seasons is currently posted on this site, some stallions being added until Thursday.
Those wanting to take advantage of the Accredited Ohio Program will have 37 stallions to choose from – all of the state’s leading sires have been generously entered into the auction.
Some of the top Kentucky Stud Farms have lent their support to the auction including (in alphabetical order) Buck Pond Farm; Calumet Farm; Darby Dan Farm; Spendthrift Farm and WinStar. There are several new Graded Stakes winners that have been recently retired; track record-setters; a Kentucky Derby winner and stallions in the $15,000 to $7,500 range that have modest minimum starting bids.
Our neighbors in Indiana have donated 22 stallions to the auction and we have several nice studs from Pennsylvania. We have some late arriving stallions being added so check the list posted here on our site. This is a great opportunity to improve the quality of the breed in Ohio.

AWESOME PATRIOT AND KENNEDY TO ENTER OHIO FOR 2018

Two young stallions with outstanding bloodlines will take residence in the Buckeye State starting in 2018. On a 2-year lease from legendary Spendthrift Farm, stakes winner Awesome Patriot will stand at Mapleton Thoroughbred Farm in Polk, Ohio. He is a full brother to Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow ($1,243,500) and is out of a full sister to Horse of the Year Tiznow ($6,427,830).
“We were very pleased to enter into this agreement with a farm that has the stature of Spendthrift,” said Dr. George Sikora. “He has an amazing and storied pedigree. He also showed a lot of promise on the track with his maiden win over grade 1 winner Coil and as a 2-year-old ran a mile in 1:35 while being a graded stakes-placed juvenile. He won from 6 ½ furlongs to 1 1/8.” Awesome Patriot will join Mobil and Cowtown Cat at Mapleton Thoroughbred Farm.
Raimonde Farms is bringing Kennedy into the Ohio Program and brings with him one of the most potent sire lines in the country. Kennedy by A.P. Indy is a three-parts brother to Champion Bernardini ($3,060,480) and a ¾ brother to Thiskyhasnolimit ($777,828).
“We were at the right place at the right time and were able to secure him. What a great addition to our and are very happy to have him added to our roster here in Ohio,” said Brian Raimonde. “ He is a stunning individual physically from the powerful A.P. Indy sire line and his female family speaks for itself.” Kennedy joins Added Edge, Hostile Takeover, Quick Change and Vaquaro at Raimonde Farm in Wooster, Ohio

FACTUM AND KISS THE GHOST TO POPLAR CREEK FOR 2018

Two new stallions join the roster of stallions at Poplar Creek Horse Center in Bethel, Ohio in 2018. Factum, a son of Storm Cat and a half-brother to War Front enter Ohio from Florida, with a successful list of runners to his name. Factum has sired stake horses from his first crop, with a large two year old crop to run in 2018. A half-brother to top sire and top sales sire, WAR FRONT who stands at Claiborne Farm in Lexington and holds a stud fee of $250,000. Factum, a tall and extremely handsome horse with a proven pedigree.  According to Robin Murphy of Poplar Creek, “The physical of this horse with a huge plus factor that he is a half-brother to War Front and by Storm Cat, I feel that he will be well received”.

Kiss The Ghost, a big, strong horse with a lot of bone enters stud for the first time in 2018. He is out of Early Times Mint Julep H. [G3]  Winnner, Kiss The Devil by Kris S.  He is a half-brother to two Graded Stakes Winners Kiss Mine and Kiss Moon, and half- brother to two Graded Stakes Producers. Ghostzapper (Awesome Again) is the sire of Kiss The Ghost, standing at Adena Springs in Paris, Kentucky, the sire of progeny with earnings over $59Million and 67 Graded Stakes Wins, 2017 being his best year to date as a sire ($10,476,310 plus 13 GSWins).  Kiss The Ghost is unraced due to a paddock injury sustained as a weanling. “While overlooking the fact that Kiss The Ghost did not aquire a race record, all signs show that he has an outstanding possibility to produce runners. A tall, big bodied colt with the right conformation along with an outstanding pedigree and dam line, I could not pass up the opportunity to bring him into my program. Carl Pollard of Hermitage Farm was so gracious to consider Poplar Creek as his home.” said Robin Murphy of Poplar Creek.  Factum and Kiss The Ghost join Birdrun, Tidal Volume, Twinspired, Vertiformer, Mixmaster, Indy Wind, Kiss The Kid, and others at Poplar Creek Horse Center in Bethel, Ohio.
