Jerry Laria’s Cali Dream, an 8 year old daughter of Cowboy Cal out of the Afternoon Deelights mare Afternoon Dreams, captured the J. William Petro Memorial Handicap at Thistledown this afternoon at odds of 63-1!. Ridden by Fernando Salazar Becerra and trained by Gary Johnson, Cali Dream laid close to the pace then made a determined stretch run to best favored Sally Strong by a nose in 1:47:66 for the mile and 1/16th. Market Success rallied to get third.

This was Cali Dream’s first win since winning the Pay the Man Stakes on August 24th, 2019! Today’s victory pushed her over the $420,000 mark for her career illustrating once again how lucrative the Ohio bred program can be as well as proving that  at least in this case a “Dream” really can come true in spectacular fashion!

Congratulations to all the winning connections – and ticket holders – of Cali Dream.
