Dayoutoftheoffice, a dark bay or brown 2 yr. old filly by Into Mischief out of the Indian Charlie mare Gottahaveadream, defeated favored Vequist by two lengths in the 1 mile Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park. She stopped the timer in 1:35:82 and followed up her recent win in the Grade 3 Schuylerville at Saratoga on July 16th. The filly is now undefeated in her three lifetime starts.
Hamm trains the “big, scopey, filly” and owns her in partnership with her breeder, Sienna Farms of Lexington, KY. Tim said he was introduced to Sienna by Jeff Hazlett of Taylor Made calling him a “great guy who we are very grateful to for thinking of us and making this introduction to the wonderful people at Sienna.”
Hamm said, ” We knew she was talented. This was a tough field and she was coming off an over 80 day layoff but we wanted to have the filly fresh and ready for this time of year. We felt that she was ready for this race and that it would set her up for what was to come.” What is to come now is the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes (G1) as this was a “Win and You’re In” race. Junior Alvarado, who gave her a heady ride putting the filly in great position and then pouncing at the top of the lane to take control of the race before cruising in hand to the wire, will retain the mount for the Breeder’s Cup.
“We’re pumped up about it for sure!” Tim said. “This filly has been all over the US this year starting with our farm in Ocala, to Kentucky, and even both Belterra and Thistledown. My entire team deserves credit for getting her ready. Special shout out to Scooter Davis who started the process in Florida and actually ran her today at Belmont. Scooter is a solid horsemen who is an invaluable asset to our entire operation.”
Hamm is one of the perennial leading trainers in Ohio and this was his first Grade 1 win.
All of us at the OTBO and in Ohio racing will be rooting for Team Hamm and the extremely flashy filly as she takes on some of the best two year old fillies in the world in the Breeder’s Cup!
