BUCKEYES IN THE BLUEGRASS
The September and October Sales in Kentucky are now over and Ohio-breds brought strong returns to their breeders. Here is a look at the top sellers in the two major yearling sales. 4,537 yearlings were entered in the Keeneland September Sale. An Ohio-bred offered by Peter Sheppell Thoroughbreds brought a final bid of $250,000 by Mike Neatherlin, Agent. The bay filly is a daughter of Malibu Moon out of the stakes placed Ode to Sami, a winner of $276,060.
Sheppell also sold the second highest priced Ohio-bred to O.T.B.O. Board member John Royer. The final bid was $60,000 for a daughter of Violence out of the unraced Chester House mare Aurora. She is a half-sister to legendary Rapid Redux who recorded 28 wins from 42 starts.

The Ohio-bred sales topper at the Fasig-Tipton October Fall Yearling sale was a son from the first crop of Tapiture out of the Scat Daddy mare Diamondsonthewater. He brought a final bid of $190,000 from Martin Anthony. Raised at O.T.B.O. members Fair Winds Farm, he was weaned under an unexpected circumstance. “The mare was in foal to Kettle Corn and started to colic,” said Kim Williams of Fair Winds. “We went to the O.S.U. clinic as quick as we could, but the vets told us to take the Tapiture foal home, as the mare wouldn’t be any help to him. He adapted well and grew into a fine looking colt. It’s a shame we never got to see that Kettle Corn she was carrying.”
The second highest price Ohio-bred at the sale was a colt bred by Langsem Farm that brought a final bid of $70,000 purchased by K.O.I.D. a Korean buyer. He is a son of Twirling Candy out of Floral Park by Forest Wildcat and a half-brother to stakes winner Dougs Buddy ($203,9300); Floral Sky ($150,858) and stakes-placed current performer Grade 2 stakes-placed Heavenhasmynikki.
