TRAINER JEFF GREENHILL WINS HIS 500TH RACE
Jeff Greenhill, who took an early retirement option as a Chemical Engineer 23 years ago, has found success again in his second career as a thoroughbred trainer. He recorded his 500th victory on December 22 when Stay On Shore made an eight-wide sweep around the turn to win at Turfway Park. He has sent out 3,283 runners and now has 500 wins; 467 seconds and 424 third-place finishes for earnings of over $8.5 million. He started out in the business as a hot-walker and groom for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. Greenhill recognized the advantages of buying state-bred runners early on and has had great success campaigning Champions in Ohio and Indiana. He has also won stakes in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. He set several track records at Presque Isle with a reformed claimer named Shakeyourgroovething and has developed a reputation to keep horses sound and winning races late in their careers.
