Hip number 1924, the final hip of the day, an Ohio Bred Filly by Bolt D’ Oro out of Hula Skirt sold on Sunday September 19th at Keeneland for $95,000. This filly was born and raised at Smokin C LLC in Stark County, Ohio and was owned by OTBO board member Steven Chumney. She was sales prepped by Elise Handler and consigned with Ballysax bloodstock.
Several of the bidders said they were especially interested in a yearling of this quality because of her eligibility to participate in the Ohio race fund incentives.
Chumney said, “I always knew this filly was special – sticking to my plan and having confidence in the process proved to work out well. Days like this are what we all dream of and what excite me for the future in this industry. Hula Skirts 2021 foal is an accredited filly by Cowtown Cat and appears to have similar qualities as her half sister who sold today. ”
“Ohio has a good program in place for breeders. As we continue to improve and work towards larger purses, I believe that the Ohio Thoroughbred industry can compete in all aspects of the national market.”
This $95,000 sale highlights what the Ohio breeding program has to offer and is the highest priced Ohio bred yearling sold at public auction in 2021 so far.
All of you will have the chance to acquire horses similar to this at the OTBO Sale on October 15th at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. The catalog will be up on our site later today. We encourage you to come out and see for yourself why Ohio Racing represents the Best Bang for the Buck in the USA!
