Ohio Standout Miss Carrera Passes Peacefully

Mike Annechino

Ohio lost one of its premier producers when the mare Miss Carrera passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2021 at the age of 21. Owned by OTBO board member, Dr. Tod Beckett and his Beckett Racing Team, Miss Carrera was successful in the auction ring, on the track, and in her career as a broodmare. Miss Carrera stemmed from an illustrious family and is a half sibling to 2001 Eclipse Award winning Champion Older Mare and millionaire Gourmet Girl in addition to top European horse Marfach (winner of $500k) and Grade 1 placed runner Northern Mischief.

After selling for $150,000 as a yearling, Miss Carrera broke her maiden in top company at historic Santa Anita with Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith in the irons. An injury shortened her career as she retired with earnings of $36,260 in 6 starts. Miss Carrera next entered the sales ring as a broodmare selling for $160,000. From 9 foals to race, Miss Carrera has produced multiple stakes horses and her offspring have won close to $900,000 on the track at the time of this writing. Her top runner was the Best of Ohio stakes winner Missap who won $243,671 in a career that included stakes wins against both the girls and boys and stakes wins on both dirt and turf. Other top runners include stakes placed earner of $160,469 Diez Dancer, Grace’s Drama who ran 3rd in the Mrs. Presidentress stakes and has current earnings of $199,170, Grandanna who hit the board in 23 of her 30 career races for earnings of $160,381, and 2020 Ohio Maiden Special Weight winner, Blanda. Out of 9 foals to race, Miss Carrera’s progeny have current total earnings of just under $900,000. Miss Carrera leaves behind a yearling Ohio bred Indy Wind colt who is a full sibling to Blanda.

Beckett Racing Team would like to express the utmost gratitude for those who have provided excellent care for Miss Carrera during her time in Ohio, including but not limited to, Dr. Andrea Jensen, Robin Murphy of Poplar Creek Horse Center, and Bobby and Colleen McMichael of Trail M Boarding and Guest Farm. In addition, Beckett Racing Team would like to extend its sincerest thank you to all the wonderful members and partners of Beckett Racing Team who have been a part of this wonderful ride. Finally, the Beckett Racing Team would like to express our love and gratitude for Miss Carrera and all the wonderful experiences she has given us over the years.
