Tivis, a dark brown filly trained by Robert Gorham was clocked in 1:11.21 for the six-furlong First Lady Stakes for Ohio-registered 3-year-old fillies.
Owned and bred by Hillburn Racing Stable LLC, Tivis is a daughter by Tale of Ekati-Preseli’s Pulpit, by Pulpit. This triumph pushed her career earnings to $169,275 and was her second stakes win, and fifth lifetime victory in 11 starts.
Tivis left the gate at 9-1 odds with rider Christian Pilares in the irons and was content to wait while rivals 9-2 Esplanande (Malcom Franklin) and 1-5 favorite Amadevil (Chelsey Keiser) slugged it out some eight lengths in front of the others. When Esplanande faded in the far turn, it appeared that the undefeated Amadevil would pick up her sixth career win, but she tired in the stretch, as a fresh and lively Tivis took over the lead to emerge victorious by 1½ lengths. Twerk (Jose Bracho) got up for third at 11-1, with Esplanande fourth over 6-1 Ballroom Blitz (Gerardo Corrales).
